Flippin'

close-up (macro) image of a universal remote control

Most of the time I spend very little time watching TV...since I spend my spare time on-line. But yesterday I finally got around to watching a bit of my Dark Angel season one box set that I got for Fathers' Day...not all of it, just 7 or 8 hours worth. So, this is what I saw for a lot of the day when I looked down from the TV.

Hello, Joe

close-up (macro) image of a coffee cup

You know, I grew up with coffee-drinking parents. I went to college with some coffee-drinking friends. I went to work with coffee-drinking people. But I still didn't pick up the habit of drinking coffee 'til I was about 24 and had an on-line friend tell me I needed to try espresso instead of regular coffee. And thus began my addiction.

All Keyed Up

close-up (macro) image of a piano keyboard

I spent a few hours at church last night helping set up the sound cabling for a group that is helping lead the worship on Sunday. It was a long and busy night. When it was all over, all that was left was me and the instruments (and all of the cables waiting to be plugged in on Sunday). But more than anything, the piano caught my eye. A photo of the beautiful glossy black body with the shiny white keys is something that always says music...even if it's silent.

Not So Bright Idea

close-up (macro) image of a strange light bulb

My co-worker had this light bulb in his office today. I'd never seen a bulb quite this shape before...and I rather liked it. I like the clear glass that lets you see what it's really made of. There seem to be few things that are really interesting on the outside that will let you see what they're really made of.

Shoe Whee

close-up (macro) image of a black wing tip dress shoe

If you've spent any time with me, you've probably noticed that I almost always wear a pair of black wingtip dress shoes. I'm not quite sure why I like those...just that my dad drilled in my head when I was young that those are what look good. And now, my brain still tells me "That's what looks good."

See you tomorrow.

Now You've Got Yourself In A Pickle

close-up (macro) image of some cucumber slices

Hey now, what's the dill? You get yourself in a pickle and want me to help you out? Sweet talking and buttering me up won't get you anywhere. So just mosey along so I can get back to vegging.

(Thanks for stopping by...and I'll see you all for tomorrow's photo).

Flamed

close-up (macro) image of a candle from the outside

Monday evening, like many evenings, we lit a candle for both the fresher smell it adds to the apartment and for the more emotional warmth that a candle tends to bring. I love the way flames look directly, but the way they look refracted through the glass interests me even more. So I took a few photos of the glass and the light shining through it from up close.

I Think I Can

close-up (macro) image of the top of a can of pop

For 16 years this was a view I looked at several times a day. Instead of coffee, I started the day with a Dew. For lunch, I had a Dew. With dinner, a Dew. While sitting and relaxing in the evening, Dew, Dew, Dew. Since I've been trying to cut the sugar down some, the Dew has gone by the wayside for the past four months. But the cans still live here...since I passed on my Dew addiction to my wife and kids. Oh well...it's a good test of willpower. = )

Bass-ically

close-up (macro) image of an electric bass guitar

Have I got the low-down for you. Bass-ically, this is just another electric guitar...but it almost never gets high (like those other electric guitars). Its life seems full of lows...always fretting about stuff. I offered to take it's photo...and noted that it would be posted her on the web site. And not just wanting to just string it along, here's the photo.

I've Got The Power

close-up (macro) image of a grounded male power plug

If ever there was a standard piece of equipment that is a part of my daily life, this would be it...the standard grounded power cable. All the computers at home and work use it. All of the monitors use it. All of the printers. External hard drives, CD drives and DVD drives use it. The scanners use it. Even some of the small non-computer-related appliances use it. It's everywhere I am. And as boring as it may be, I definitely wouldn't be me without it.

Munch A Buncha

After Tuesday night's snack of chips, my late night snack Wednesday night was on health freak level in comparison. But I looked in the fridge and found these grapes. And "munch a bunch" is what I did...after I took a few photos of course.

See you all tomorrow.

Isn't this peachy? No, really...this is a photo of the inside of a peach with a light shining through it.

Peaches are definatley my favorite fruit. Sweet and tangy with a fuzzy skin. From the texture to the taste, I love these things.

I bought a few today and thought I should probably take some pictures before I devoured them all. So here you go.

See you tomorrow.

Monkey Business

image of a toy monkey

When I was a kid, my grandma made each and every one of us grandchildren one of these monkeys. Every time another kid was born into the family, there was another monkey in the family as well. She's kept this up even with the great grandchildren. I reccon some day one of my great great great grandchildren will wind up with a pile of monkeys...wondering where they all came from. These monkeys are some of the most abused and loved toys ever in our family.

Roll 'Em Out

close-up (macro) image of the wheels of a roller skate

When I was younger (I mean really younger...like 10 and under), I spent quite a bit of time on something like this. Roller skates were one of the biggest parts of our self-entertainment as kids. We'd strap them on and roll back and forth in the same little space in the basement as fast as we could for hours on end. The skates were plainer...with black or white leather and shiny steel wheels...no bright colors and softer rubber cushioned wheels. Now my daughter plays in her skates. Sometimes a few little wheels are enough to make the day go by.

Anti Agua

image of the inside of an umbrella

This image is a vision of what I saw much of the day (and night) on Thursday. With the rain coming and going, an umbrella was the best thing to have at hand.

About 10:30 p.m. the lights went off for 5 minutes while the hail and rain poured down louder than I've heard in quite a long time. The wind blew. The lightening flashed. The thunder boomed. Mmmm...I like storms. It made for a very relaxing evening.

A Chip Off The Old Block

close-up (macro) image of a chocolate chip cookie

It's hard to find a food more perfect than chocolate...well, as long as you don't count the fact that it's full of sugar and fat...and don't consider vitamins and other nutritious things important in your food. But if it wasn't for all that, chocolate would indeed be the only thing needed for sustenance. As it is, it's hard to resist it as a supplement to your diet...just by merit of its taste alone. It is because of that, that I absconded with one of my daughters' cookies this evening...just to um...take pictures of it. Yeah, that's it...I only wanted it for the photos.

Jumping For Joy

close-up (macro) image of a jumping spider in my dining room

I'm not sure what the deal is with bugs and spiders in my apartment this month. But this cute (?) little creature wandered its way into our apartment last night and was hanging around on the wall in the dining room. So I decided that since it was posing there so nicely, I'd snap a few photos. It was doing amazingly well 'til suddenly it seemed to get freaked out and attacked...jumping right on the lens of the camera. Fortunately, the camera is immune to jumping spider venom. I pulled the camera away from the wall and it jumped back off of the lens onto the wall where it had been before. I tried to catch it to throw it out of the house, but it jumped off the wall and took off under some furniture, never to be seen again...for now anyway. I just hope it lets me sleep through the night. = )

Things Are Looking Up

image of the building where I work...from the ground

Oh every day I take the bus
Into the part of town
Where office buildings rule the air
And concrete rules the ground

I walk the blocks to where I work
Within this building high
And ride the 16 stories up
There closer to the sky

Wet Washed Window

image of my office window, wet from the pouring rain

This was my view of the world any time I looked out the window from work on Thursday. After a week of 85 to 95 degree days, it finally rained and brought sweet coolness to the air. The temperature actually hung around 70 degrees most of the day. So although it's somewhat of a pain to get around downtown walking in the rain...it's a blessing to have the bearable temperatures return.

After spendings two more hours at work on a last-minute PowerPoint presentation that somebody didn't plan for ahead of time (even though they had three weeks to do so)...I was tired and didn't feel like hunting for a photo. Belly Up

It's now been June for 3 days (four if you count today). And you know, it's been the strangest thing. Around our back door and back bathroom...inside the apartment...I have found about 25 dead June bugs since this month began. That has to be the strangest way I've seen to ring in a new month. Special Condensation

close-up image of a glass of a carbonated beverage

Monday night we went out to dinner with some of my daughter's classmates (about 30 of them) and we were sitting by a window. I was taking photos of my daughter and her friends of course. But I liked the way light of the evening sun was shining through this pop...so I snapped a few photos of it. I like the difference...and yet the likeness of the condensation drops on the outside...and the "drop-like" bubbles on the inside.

Sunset City

image of a sunset over the apartments where I live

I grew up way out in a suburb of Indianapolis. By way out I mean that there were corn and soy bean fields on three sides of our small neighborhood. We even went and played in the woods that were between the field behind our house and the next one. For all practical purposes, I guess I grew up in the country...or close enough to it to feel part of it. But I've been living here in Dallas for the past nine years...and it just doesn't feel the same. Sunsets, which are beautiful with a horizon of trees, hills and water...just don't seem the same with the hard borders of steel and brick. It's still pretty, but not quite the same.
