Peter, Peter Pumpkinhead

Image of a pumpkin-headed scarecrow-like figure

This evening the kids all go out to find more than their fill of candy and stick it in their bags. This fellow, however, guards the candy stash across the street from my house.

Special thanks to my neighbor for being so gracious as to allow me to photograph the hard work he put in.

Steep Steeple

Image of a steeple

This beautiful steeple is part of Christ Church Cathedral in downtown St. Louis, Missouri. I love all of the details...the little figures (gargoyles?) and windows and all.

Eagle Eye View

Unwavering stare
Of infinite eyes
Continues through day and through night
No muscle is moved
No breath do you take
As you sit as a guard of our might

It's About Time

You show me when
The minutes pass
And as the seconds go
And if I had
You not at hand
The time I'd never know

Tired Tire

close-up (macro) image of the worn, tired, cracked rubber of an old tire

The rough paved road
In country and in town

But after all
Those rocky years
It's fi-nal-ly worn down

Slug Bug Brown

close-up (macro) image of a slug on a rock with some leaves

Weeding 'round the flowers
I chanced upon a slug
And wondered to myself
Is it worm or snake or bug?

And though I know not where it falls
This little piece of slime
I still have placed it on this page
To live for all of time

One Petal At A Time

close-up (macro) image of a daisy-like flower

Autumn is descending upon us all...but this flower is only letting go one petal at a time.

Pardon my on again, off again posting schedule the last couple of weeks. I've been dealing with internet and phone connection problems. Hopefully everything is about worked out...or will be soon.

Leaf It To Me

image of a bunch of red, fall-changed leaves

This tree was still hanging on to some of its color. The trees in my yard seem to have suddenly just decided to skip the colors and turn from green to brown. We have a couple of fir trees that decided to shed their fur...leaving a carpet of brown needles everywhere. Like animals and their fur...these trees shed their fur. The difference is...animals shed their fur when it gets hot...trees shed their fur when it gets cold.

It's a mixed up world sometimes. = )

Bee-ginning Of The End

close-up (macro) image of a large bee on some small flowers

As the flowers begin to wilt with the end of summer, the bees are gathering up the last of the nectar to take home to their hives. As I was out looking for photos to take, there were tons of bees around the flowers. They know the days are numbered and are working up a storm to finish their season's work. Maybe they're as bad of procrastinators as some of us.

Pushin' Up Daisies

close-up (macro) image of some very daisy-like flowers

These were some more flowers hanging out in the long grass, just waiting for fall to come and snatch them away. It's gone from hot to warm to cool to cold and back to warm again. It was up to around 80 degrees (Fahrenheit) today. Oh well...it will be fall soon enough.

Run For Cover...I Mean Clover

close-up (macro) image of a purple clover

Before all of the flowers and blooming weeds are gone for the year, I gathered a few more photos. This clover, for example (along with several of its siblings), was hanging onto its beautiful purple color for a little while longer.

Floral Finale

close-up (macro) image of a red flower

As fall gets into the swing of things around here, the flowers around my home begin to whither a little bit. But with the leaving of the flowers comes the color of the leaves...and finally, the cooling of the air. Mmmm...my favorite time of year.

Edison's Ingeneious Engineering Invention

image of a round light bulb

It's been a few months since I had my week full of photos of different kinds of lights, but I didn't get this particular one. I had a couple similar perhaps, but something about lights interests me. All of them are so similar in their glow...yet so different shapes and ways of throwing light.

I guess it's kind of like people. We're all the same in so many ways...but each so different in shape and attitudes. I guess that what makes each of us pretty interesting.

A Little Batty

close-up (macro) image of a bat on the side of the building in which I work in downtown St. Louis

What's tiny, furry, cold and winged? Why the bat on the side of my office building, of course. My co-worker spotted it this morning and pointed it out to a couple others of us as we were walking by it (Thanks, Lynn). It was all cuddled and snuggled against the side of the building...just hanging there. Not that I'd choose a cement building as a good cuddling partner...but whatever floats your boat. I probably spent 20 minutes taking photos of it from pretty close (up to about one inch away)...and it just stayed right where it was. I guess it was either fast asleep or I'm just not as scary as I think. ; )

And here I thought you had to go to the country to watch the wildlife.
